Conspiracy of Raven once again sees the return of Michael Troughton‘s post-War Games Second Doctor, alongside not only Frazer Hines as Jamie, but Wendy Padbury as Zoe Heriot as well. 

Nicholas Briggs and Mark Wright prove once again with Conspiracy of Raven‘s intricate and well-crafted storyline just how talented they are. The entire set weaves together elements of mystery, adventure, and intrigue, taking listeners on a journey through time and space alongside the Doctor. The plot twists and turns, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats and eager to discover what happens next.

The characters in this set are a huge highlight. From the Doctor’s charismatic presence, which, as usual, is performed wonderfully by Michael Troughton, to the amazing supporting cast such as the always great (and my personal favorite character in this series) Raven, played by Emma Noakes, as well as Jamie and Zoe.

Each character is fleshed out with depth and complexity, adding layers to the narrative and making it all the more compelling. The interactions between characters are well-written and engaging, there’s a particular moment between Jamie and the Doctor towards the end that really stood out, as well as the dynamic between Raven and the Doctor also being a highlight. 

Furthermore, the production quality of Conspiracy of Raven is top-notch. The sound design, voice acting, and especially the music by Toby Hrycek-Robinson all come together to create an immersive experience that feels straight out of 60s Doctor Who, a feeling that has been wonderfully captured since the first episode back in Beyond War Games (review here).

Overall, Conspiracy of Raven is a standout story that showcases the best of what Big Finish has to offer. With its gripping story, well-rounded characters, and high-quality production, it is a must-listen for any Second Doctor fans, mystery fans, and really anyone that likes a very well done Doctor Who adventure.
