George Hewitt gives his thoughts on the first four episodes of the Torchwood Among Us series

You can find our reviews of the four individual episodes here:

The first boxset of Torchwood Series 7 is a huge success. Every aspect of production matches the same extremely high standard, from the cast’s performances, to the scripts, to Blair Mowat‘s music and Sean Longmore‘s cover artwork. The first and fourth episodes bookend this set with the more arc-driven narratives that, although standalone, feel very connected and set up questions that will undoubtedly be answered in future episodes of this series. The middle two episodes are much more individual affairs, each focussing on a smaller cast and the effects that Torchwood has on individuals. The return of Eve Myles and Kai Owen, and the new casting of Joplin Sibtain, are great to hear and the three give their all in their respective stories.

This may be the best Torchwood boxset Big Finish have released so far, an incredible feat in a series that already sets such a high bar for itself. It seems as though the structure of the set, with the middle two episodes being slightly more detached from the central story, will be continuing in this month’s Among Us 2. This first volume proves that the format works, and it will be exciting to see how it’s utilised in the future. Huge congratulations to James Goss, Scott Handcock, Ash Darby, Tim Foley, Una McCormack, and all the others who have worked on this set, for creating what could very easily be the best series of Torchwood yet.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
