I really wanted to like this story. Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper as the Doctor and Rose – check. The brilliant Lauren Mooney and Stewart Pringle of The Quintessence fame on writing duties – check. An intriguing dystopian premise – check.

Despite all these delicious ingredients, something must have gone wrong with the cooking, because I found Cloud Eight to be decidedly underbaked.

Slow to get going, before flinging the plot at you and then wrapping up in the blink of an eye, this story is comfortably the least effective of this series of Ninth Doctor Adventures so far. The performances are good and the ideas are admittedly strong, but the way Cloud Eight is told feels boring and rushed all at once.
